How Recruiters Use Highlighty for Candidate Search
Written on:

A role brief can contain several requirements, while a candidate page gives you a long stream of text. Highlighty helps you keep a short list of terms visible as you read. It finds words; you still decide what each mention means in context.
Start with the role, not a generic keyword list
Choose three to five terms that would be useful to locate on a profile. For example, a project management brief might call for PMP, Scrum, and stakeholder experience. Add each term to Highlighty and give it a distinct color. The free plan supports up to five active queries per list.
Open a candidate profile or another text-based page. Highlighty marks the terms it finds, so you can move through the page without restarting a one-word browser search each time. A missing term means only that the exact term was not found in the text Highlighty could read; it is not proof the person lacks the skill.
Read the match before using it
- Check whether the candidate used the skill, managed a team that used it, or merely mentioned it in another context.
- Look for spelling variants and related terms in the role brief; exact keyword matching is limited by wording.
- Use the same list across comparable pages, but evaluate each person using the relevant evidence and your normal hiring process.
When the information is in a CV PDF
Highlighty's PRO PDF Search opens local or remote PDFs and applies your chosen terms there. Image-only English PDFs can be made searchable with on-device OCR; scan quality affects recognition. The document is not uploaded to Highlighty for search or OCR processing. Account and subscription functions still use Highlighty services.
You can import terms from an Excel sheet on the free plan within its five-query limit. PRO allows larger query lists. Check the current pricing page before deciding whether those features fit your workflow.
Try a real reading task
Take one role brief, choose a few terms, and see whether Highlighty makes the relevant passages easier to locate. It does not screen, score, or rank candidates for you, and you should follow the rules of the platform hosting the page.
To practice without using real candidate data, open the fictional candidate profile and look for PMP, Scrum, and stakeholder. The free plan supports those three webpage queries.
